The Fine Line Between Healing and Harm on the Spiritual Path: A Psychic Medium's Perspective

The Soul and Its Instruments: Who Are We, Really?

What if I told you that the “you” you see in the mirror isn’t the whole picture? Beneath the physical body, emotions, and even thoughts lies something far more profound: the soul, that eternal spark of divinity within us. But here’s the thing—the tools the soul uses, like our mind and body, don’t actually know themselves. They’re just that: tools. Even the mind, with all its brilliance, can’t claim, "This is me." Instead, it acts as a bridge between the soul and the world around us.

However, when we haven’t attuned to this deeper essence, we’re often caught in the traps of our conditioned selves. Our past experiences, unhealed wounds, and habitual reactions shape how we react to life. Without even realizing it, we may project old patterns or unresolved pain into our spiritual practices, mistaking them for growth. This is where the spiritual journey becomes precarious—when we operate from ego, fear, or the unmet needs of our past selves, we risk straying from the authentic path.

I’ve witnessed this truth countless times in my work as a psychic medium. One session stands out vividly. A client came to me heartbroken, desperate to connect with a loved one who had passed. It wasn’t my mind that bridged the gap—it was the quiet, knowing openness of the soul. By silencing my conditioned thoughts and tuning into a higher vibration, I became a vessel for the love and reassurance her loved one wanted to share. Moments like that remind me how powerful—and how deeply connected—our souls truly are when we move beyond the patterns of the past.

Breath: The Bridge Between Worlds

Breath is more than oxygen; it’s life force, a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms. It’s also a powerful symbol of renewal—of moving from sorrow to joy, from destruction to infinite potential. This cycle mirrors the flow of the universe and reminds us of the transformative power inherent in every moment.

During one of my visits to the etheric version of my lost home in Concow, I witnessed this truth profoundly. A spirit guide who carried the sorrow of the land’s past shifted, moment by moment, into radiant joy as the infinite potential of the place revealed itself. It was as if the land itself took a breath, releasing its pain and welcoming a vision of renewal. That experience reminded me of the deep power we all have to move through grief into creation, to exhale what no longer serves and inhale the possibility of new beginnings.

Chakras: The Body’s Energy Hotspots

Think of your chakras as energy hubs, each with its own unique job. From the root chakra that keeps you grounded to the crown chakra that connects you to divine wisdom, these centers shape how energy flows through your body and your life.

After undergoing cervical spine surgery in October 2024, I experienced a profound healing shift—not just in my spine but throughout my entire being. My chakras seemed to align in ways I hadn’t felt in years, creating a sense of balance and flow from head to toe. The clarity in my mind was striking as if a fog had lifted. My breath came easier, my limbs felt freer, and I could sense the energy moving through my body with a newfound vitality.

By December 2024, just two months after the surgery, I co-hosted my first in-person mediumship group. It was a rainy late fall afternoon, but the room was warm with connection and anticipation. Standing alongside my co-host, sharing messages from spirit with the group, I felt deeply grounded yet expansive, as though every part of me—physical, energetic, and spiritual—was in alignment. My chakras, my breath, my body, and my mind all seemed to harmonize in a way that allowed me to be fully present and attuned to the energy in the room.

This experience, coming so soon after such a significant physical and energetic healing, felt like a profound celebration of renewal and growth. It was a powerful reminder of how deeply connected our physical and spiritual bodies truly are.

The Solar Plexus: Turning Fear into Power

If you’ve ever had “butterflies in your stomach,” you’ve felt the energy of your solar plexus at work. This chakra, located just above your belly button, is where we process emotions and desires. It’s the seat of our personal power—but it can also be the source of fear and self-doubt. The magic lies in learning to transform that energy.

I remember a mediumship event on Zoom earlier in the year, where the energy was palpable, even through the screen. As participants joined, I could feel the collective nervous anticipation settle right in my solar plexus. It was almost overwhelming, as though their emotions were reaching out through the digital space and landing in my body.

In that moment, I remembered the importance of letting their energy go. I turned within, consciously releasing anything that wasn’t mine and focusing my mind and intention on connecting with spirit. That simple act of centering—of clearing myself and aligning with higher energy—allowed me to shift from feeling overwhelmed to being fully present. From there, the messages from spirit flowed with clarity and love, resonating deeply with everyone present.

This experience reminded me of the power of intention and the need to create space within ourselves. When we consciously let go of what doesn’t serve us and align with our purpose, we step into a place of calm strength, ready to channel something greater than ourselves.

The Dangers of Misguided Spiritual Practices

Walking the spiritual path can feel empowering and transformative, but it’s not without its pitfalls. Without discernment, we risk causing harm—to ourselves and others.

I once encountered a yoga instructor who was deeply passionate about her work and eager to connect with her students. On the surface, she seemed to embody the essence of spirituality—dedicated, motivated, and compassionate. But her true motivations told a different story. Beneath the polished exterior, she was driven by a strong desire for fame and financial success. Her unresolved personal struggles—an eating disorder, addiction, and deeply rooted sexual trauma—added to the complexity of her approach.

Her classes became more about pleasing her audience and gaining validation than fostering genuine healing. Instead of creating a safe, nurturing environment, her unmet needs and projections seeped into her teaching. This created an undercurrent of unease, leaving both her and her students emotionally depleted.

Her story serves as a powerful reminder: spiritual growth isn’t just about external practices, appearances, or even good intentions—it’s about doing the inner work to heal ourselves. When we neglect this vital step, even the most well-meaning efforts can perpetuate cycles of harm, both to ourselves and those we hope to guide. True spiritual practice begins with humility, honesty, and a willingness to face our own shadows.

What’s the Takeaway?

As 2024 draws to a close and I reflect on the transformative journey of this year, one thing is clear: spiritual growth isn’t a straight path, and it’s not always easy. But every challenge, every breath, every moment of reflection is an opportunity to realign with your soul’s purpose. Whether you’re healing from something physical, like I did, or navigating emotional or spiritual challenges, know this—you’re growing. You’re transforming. You’re becoming.

Our ultimate goal is to live in unity with the divine, where everything we do—every thought, word, and action—becomes an expression of higher consciousness. As we refine our bodies, minds, and energy systems, we not only elevate ourselves but also become lights for others on their path.

So, as we prepare to step into a new year, let’s commit to doing the work, both inner and outer. Let’s pause, breathe, and reflect: What am I aligning with? What energy am I sharing with the world? Because that’s where the magic—and the transformation—begins.
