Looking out over the hills and turns of Paradise, CA, it is easy to see that an incredible amount of hard work has gone into rebuilding this town since the 2018 Campfire, which destroyed homes, businesses, and lives—including my home in neighboring Concow.
The spirit of the town is coming to life. Many new homes have been completed, businesses have returned, the arts are alive, and community togetherness is palpable (see image below). Although, Paradise isn’t the same as before the Campfire. I mean, how could it be?
But it is charming—even pretty—and healing to my soul whenever I come up from Chico to my office, where I see clients. I'm a Psychic, Medium, Energy Healer, and Spiritual Teacher, and I share an office with Margaret VanLaanMartin at the Quail Run Professional Building on Clark Road.
Margaret is also a Psychic, Medium, Energy Healer, and Spiritual teacher with over 30 years of experience and the owner/founder of the Age of Aquarius. A few years ago, she brought me into her practice, where I now share office space with her and get the bonus of working alongside my mentor and friend.

But what impression does Paradise, after a massive disaster like the 2018 Campfire, really give a natural-born sensitive like me? The answer is that it’s a mix: the spirit of rebuilding, determination, cooperation, and the promise of a better future mixed with feelings of fear, frustration, depression, grief, sadness, and loss. From an energetic perspective, it seems to depend upon what has or hasn’t been dealt with effectively. There is still work to be done.
Vacant land stands out the most energetically speaking. It isn’t just the appearance of an empty lot with the subtle outline of where a house or business used to be. When I look over the land, I pick up on subtle impressions—I’m told a story about the hardship, grief, and despair of the Campfire. Still, it goes farther back to the pioneers of the olden days and the hardships they experienced when they first stepped foot on this land, as well as the reminder to persevere.
Going even further back, the energy of the Indigenous people comes through, reminding me about the abuse of power and what happens when we forget to work intuitively with nature. I’m also reminded about how nature wants to fill a void and how important it is to remember that we are not just here to rebuild property and infrastructure; we are rebuilding a community that includes Mother Nature and all her inhabitants.
It's important to remind ourselves to ask for what we want. In other words, fill the void with what we want so that we don’t end up with more of what we don’t want—depression, grief, sadness, and loss that can energetically linger and continue to influence our surroundings, seeping into our subconscious, and subtly influencing our moods and behaviors, even our health and sense of well-being and safety of our community. And to take action when the opportunity arises.
As a trained spiritual healer, I help clear, heal, and transmute undesirable energy in people so they can experience a more positive version of themselves and live a more fulfilling life. I also do this for houses, businesses, classrooms, and even land. It's like a birth doula helping a newborn come into this world—as an experienced guide in a natural process. Instead of birthing babies, I help clear away unwanted energies and disembodied souls who may be lingering to allow for more effective spiritual energies from a higher power to guide us--giving us a feeling of renewal, even rebirth.
Sometimes, removing unwanted objects and rebuilding a house or business isn’t enough to clear the sick feeling left behind. This takes a different approach to shift the energy to higher ground: clearing the old, stuck vibrations and bringing in the positive, higher vibrations—where true healing can take place—a better place left behind for our future generations.
When energy is potent, such as during a disaster affecting tens of thousands of people, it leaves a signature—an icky residue. This can be cleared from a spiritual standpoint. We can all do something to improve it, not just clean up stuff and rebuild but also replace the old ways with new intentions to help inspire, uplift, and heal.
