Healing isn’t just about repairing the body—it’s about addressing the layers of life experiences, traumas, and even karmic patterns that shape our journey. My path has been one of unraveling, understanding, and renewal, and it all began in 2011 with a mysterious illness that defied explanation.
At first, I thought I could manage it through lifestyle changes. My body, like a canary in a coal mine, was highly sensitive to environmental toxins, chemicals, and processed foods. Cleaning, bending, twisting, and reaching often left me weak, exacerbating symptoms I couldn’t yet explain—weakness in my limbs, bladder control issues, and unrelenting fatigue. Despite my best efforts, my condition followed a stepwise degeneration, becoming worse over time and leaving me searching for answers.
The Turning Point
In 2022, my body finally gave out. My primary doctor sent me home from work and placed me on medical leave, a decision that initially felt like a setback but turned out to be a gift. For two years, I focused on healing—not just physically but emotionally and spiritually.
This time allowed me to process the traumas I had endured, beginning with the Camp Fire in 2018, which destroyed my home and uprooted my life. In 2019, my husband passed away from cancer, leaving me grieving deeply. Just as I began to rebuild, the pandemic struck in 2020, shortly after I had moved into my first home post-fire. The weight of these hardships took a toll on my body, and by the time life finally quieted down, it felt as though my physical self had reached its breaking point.
During those two years at home, I dove deeply into my spiritual practice. I reflected on the karma that had contributed to my physical challenges and began to heal the emotional wounds I had carried for so long. It wasn’t just about rest and recovery; it was about addressing the underlying causes of my illness and transforming from the inside out.
The Diagnosis That Changed Everything
The pieces of the puzzle finally came together when I received a life-changing diagnosis: congenital cervical stenosis leading to myelopathy and radiculopathy. My condition was severe. This explained everything—the weakness, pain, bladder issues, and progressive loss of mobility.
Even with the diagnosis, the journey wasn’t without its challenges. At one point, a neurologist at Stanford dismissed my condition as psychogenic, insisting it was “all in my head.” That moment was disheartening but served as a reminder that not all doctors approach their practice with integrity. Still, the psychic medium in me trusted the guidance I had been receiving all along. This wasn’t just a physical journey—it was a spiritual one, and I knew I was being led toward the right doctors, treatments, and interventions.
Meeting Dr. Tan and his team at UCSF Neuro-Spine was the validation I had been seeking. “It all makes sense,” they told me. “You have pathology.” Their compassion and expertise gave me the confidence to proceed with cervical spine surgery in October 2024, a decision that would change my life.
Surgery and Renewal
The surgery wasn’t just about fixing my body—it was about reclaiming my life. Now, at three months post-op, I feel better than I have in over a decade. The debilitating symptoms—difficulty walking, numbness, bladder issues, and unrelenting pain—are significantly better.
Though I still have environmental allergies and sensitivities, the reduction in inflammation and spinal cord compression has made a profound difference. Recovery has brought its own lessons in patience, resilience, and gratitude. Each day of physical therapy, each walk with my beautiful French Bulldog Stella, is a reminder of how far I’ve come.
A New Chapter
Coming home to heal wasn’t just about recovery; it was also about rediscovering my purpose. During this time, I embraced my gifts as a psychic medium and started my own business. Partnering with Margaret VanLaanMartin at Age of Aquarius—a space dedicated to helping others “Find Your Path and Have Fun, Too”—has been an incredible experience.
For the first time in years, I am truly enjoying life. I’ve found immense joy and inspiration in giving mediumship readings, especially group or gallery readings, which create beautiful opportunities for connection and healing. Teaching psychic development and dowsing classes with Margaret has also become a passion, allowing me to guide others on their own spiritual journeys.
Looking Ahead
As I continue to grow my business and share my gifts, I look forward to expanding my work, teaching others, and embracing the opportunities ahead. This journey has shown me that healing is not just about mending the body but also nurturing the soul.
Rumi’s words capture this transformation beautifully:
"Try not to resist the changes that come your way. Instead, let life live through you. And do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?"
Healing inside and out has been a journey of resilience, surrender, and renewal. It has brought me to a place of joy, gratitude, and purpose—and for that, I am profoundly thankful.
