The real magic of any given circumstance lies beneath the surface, though in a fundamental way, including the surface. In fact, something about the appearance of any form or circumstance is what gives one clues as to what lies behind it. The significance of this perspective becomes clearer through the experience of realization. Once realized, it is more obvious that one's mind was meant to expand in awareness rather than cling to preconceived ideas. Ideas or constructs are the scaffoldings of life meant to help one navigate or make meaning of the world. Within each tier of scaffolding is an escape route.
Maya Angelou once said beautifully:
I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.
Knowledge is a great sacrifice to the little ego. This simply means that when new information comes along to do something better than before (often making life a lot easier in the long run), it's the little ego that must be let go of. Self-sacrifice isn't the term used for throwing people to the Volcanic Gods. What it really means is the ability to let go, at all costs, which no longer serves humanity's greater whole. Not long ago, farmers producing food for the world fought pests with DDT. Now, they know better, though many unhealthy farming practices still remain. With that said, the short-term solution isn't always the easiest or safest in the long run.
However simplified one makes a conflict, it really boils down to three basic components:
1. The ability to recognize the expanding awareness.
2. The common sense to let go of what no longer serves humanity.
3. And the ability to apply new information or the willingness to experiment.
When these three conditions are met, life becomes much easier because ease and plentifulness go hand-in-hand.
