Freedom to Be

Writer's picture: Jennifer LasellJennifer Lasell

Writing is a process and an experience. I wouldn't want to imagine myself not picking up a pen to write with. It's almost a vacation to sit back, contemplate, and write. How the words flow is magical. I'm witnessing the appearance as much as I am writing it down. The words convey meaning, and while I derive one meaning at first, I penetrate into a deeper meaning later. Spiral cyclic is my writing style. What comes around goes around. The ending portrays the beginning. The beginning is said in the ending. The words are a mystery, and then it's said. The process is a marvel, and the experience is delightful.

I woke up one morning to the sound of words. I heard them read in my own voice. I could see the hands of someone holding open a book. The cover was shown to me. It was white, and the title was about the soul's journey through birth, life, and death and the recovery from these strongly held beliefs about the nature of oneself. My feet didn't quite fit the shoes of Cinderella, but this morning, the shoes fit. I knew I wanted to write it down. It was a knowing deep within me.

My favorite way to play hooky from work is to stay home, meditate, research, and write. Writing is a creative impulse. It means the freedom to carry on as one sees oneself through to completion. No one ever said, "You shouldn't write."
