Back in the day, Aqua Net hairspray was cheap and plentiful, and it got the job done. This was the glorious 80s, and hair was big!
My bedroom turned into a beauty parlor when my friend and I skipped school to do our hair and make-up. We were seniors in high school, experiencing the spring of the final countdown.
“Roberto is coming to pick me up. Let’s go to the Drive-In [theatre],” Maria said to me.
I tagged along.
As youngsters, life was all about the present moment, but in such a way that what happened tomorrow wasn’t really thought through. My Economics teacher pulled me into his office at school. My absences almost cost me a high school diploma. Thankfully, he was generous with his grade and allowed me to pass his course, "Get out of here before I change my mind!"

In the spring of the following year, I was in college, and Maria still wanted to do hair and make-up with me, but this time, we didn’t skip class. “Mi Amiga, let’s get together this weekend and go dancing.” We always had a place to go for Salsa, Cumbia, and Banda on the weekend!

I sat in the Ashram one evening. We were given a special assignment, as it was Thanksgiving, and we were all hungry and waiting for the delicious food to finish cooking. Ask yourselves, who is the one doing the listening? I sat captivated by the question for a moment, then let it go.
Another question was asked: If you are the one doing the listening, then what are you listening to?
