When disturbed by negative thoughts, opposite [positive] ones should be thought of. This is pratipaksa bhavana (The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali 2.33).

Roxanne Louise (roxannelouise.com) is a nationally recognized hypnotherapist, reiki master teacher, dowser, and founder/owner of Unlimited Potential Healing Center. She has written several books on these topics, including Therapeutic Dowsing and Telepathic Healing.

During the Flagstaff Dowsing Conference in Arizona, I attended her half-day workshop, “Dowsing on Mental/Emotional Issues—The Root Cause of Problems.” What she taught has bridged my daily spiritual practice with how I want to work with clients to help them overcome the problems they face to find true healing—like turning straw into gold with spiritual alchemy.

What Roxanne’s work bridges for me is a decades-long spiritual practice and a divining technique called Spiritual Reading, which I’ve found difficult to explain until now, with a technique she more easily describes as dowsing books and charts with a pendulum to identify problems and their positive opposites to clear or transmute the problem energy—where true healing takes place.

With spiritual reading, I dowse books on the spiritual topics I’m drawn to and have practiced transmuting energy over the years in a very similar way. The key distinction between spiritual reading and dowsing with a pendulum lies within the method of dowsing: deviceless or with a device, and in this case, a pendulum.

With spiritual reading, I deviceless dowse by allowing my higher self/spirit to guide me through my eyes, hands, and feelings within my body. Often, I’m energetically pulled toward the book I'm inwardly guided to read. Deviceless dowsing has worked quite well for me over the years. I have used this technique daily as part of my spiritual practice for divining the underlying spiritual lesson for that day, which for me is about understanding who I am as a spiritual being and how to apply the wisdom I glean from these experiences in my life circumstances and with clients—overcoming the obstacles along the way! And growing spiritually in ways I never expected were possible.

Since meeting Roxanne, attending her workshop, and reading her book mentioned above, I have started dowsing my books (and charts) with a pendulum to see if this method of divining would yield the same or different results as spiritual reading. I have found that even though it takes a bit longer to swing a pendulum than to follow where my eyes fall, I have received targeted and meaningful results. I continue using Roxanne's method alongside my daily spiritual reading practice, as I'm often guided to do.

Meaning is important because it describes the energy behind our thoughts, feelings, physical issues, and circumstances. This is known as identifying the underlying causes. Once we understand ourselves at the level of causes, we can glean wisdom from our experiences, heal ourselves, and grow abundantly.
