Discovering the Hidden Light Within: A Journey Through Meditation

Writer's picture: Jennifer LasellJennifer Lasell

As a spiritual medium, I often find myself reflecting on the sacred connection between our earthly existence and the divine essence that animates us. One phrase that has profoundly inspired me is, “My life is hid with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3). This beautiful verse speaks of the spiritual security and surrender we experience when we align ourselves with divine love and light. Whether you resonate with Christ, Krishna, or the universal Source, the journey to uncover the hidden light within is one of the most transformative experiences we can undertake.

This meditation practice blends insights from Alice A. Bailey's The Light of the Soul, Bhagavad Gita As It Is (16.5), and timeless biblical wisdom. It is designed to help you access the radiant light of your higher self, surrender to divine guidance, and cultivate the transcendental qualities that lead to liberation.

The Divine Inspiration

In The Light of the Soul, Alice Bailey explores the soul’s journey toward illumination through the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. She teaches that the soul’s essence is veiled within us, waiting for conscious discovery. This mirrors the Bible’s promise that our true life is “hidden” in God, inviting us to explore the depth of our divine connection.

The Bhagavad Gita (16.5) also illuminates this journey. Krishna assures Arjuna, “The transcendental qualities lead to liberation, whereas the demonic qualities make for bondage.” These divine qualities—faith, fearlessness, compassion, and self-control—are keys to uncovering the light within and aligning with our highest potential.

As a practitioner of meditation, you can integrate these teachings to deepen your connection to Spirit, releasing ego-driven attachments and embracing the divine light that guides you.

A Guided Meditation to Uncover the Hidden Light

1. Prepare Your Sacred Space

  • Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. Light a candle or incense to signify the presence of Spirit.

  • Sit comfortably with your spine straight and your hands resting in your lap.

2. Center Yourself Through Breath

  • Close your eyes and take several deep breaths. Inhale for a count of four, hold for four, and exhale for six. With each exhale, release distractions and allow your mind to settle into stillness.

3. Invoke Divine Guidance

  • Silently or aloud, set your intention:

“I surrender my ego and align with my higher self. May my life, hidden in the divine essence, radiate love, light, and truth.”

4. Visualize the Hidden Light

  • Imagine a radiant light at your heart center, small and hidden like a seed. With each inhale, the light grows brighter, filling your being with divine love and peace.

  • See this light connecting you to an infinite ocean of divine consciousness, reminding you that you are always held within the embrace of the sacred.

5. Rest in Silence

  • Allow the words and images to fade into silence. Sit in stillness, observing any sensations, emotions, or insights that arise. Rest in the awareness of your connection to the Divine.

6. Closing Affirmation

  • Place your hands over your heart and affirm:

“I am one with the Divine.”

Journaling Prompt: Reflecting on the Light Within

After your meditation, take a few moments to reflect and journal on this prompt:

Cultivating Divine Qualities

Which qualities (e.g., faith, compassion, fearlessness) do you feel most aligned with right now?

Closing Thoughts

The journey to uncover the hidden light within is a sacred act of self-discovery and surrender. As you deepen your practice, remember that this light is always present, no matter how hidden it may seem. Through meditation, reflection, and the cultivation of divine qualities, you can align with your higher self and embrace the transformative truth that your life is eternally held in the Divine.
