Darshan

The light in the head is a very real phenomenon for the meditation practitioner. Somewhere around the pineal gland, an awakening occurs once concentrated upon. This awakening quickens the germ latent within the form, and a radiant substance appears. Some may term this glowing appearance a "halo." At the same time, others may call it one's darshan, a Sanskrit term meaning the energy of love and healing between a holy person and the one who holds them in the light.

I walked into the house on a Fall evening. It smelled of good, delicious food. I immediately recognized a deep and penetrating feeling of love. It hadn't yet occurred to me that this was my spiritual teacher's home, though the seed kept dormant within me.

Later, I dreamed of spirits walking through the walls of my teacher's house. These spirits were the teachers who came to help impart the spiritual lesson. To investigate my dream, the next time I went to my teacher's home, I scanned the place for any evidence of any psychic phenomenon by quietly looking around me. One image on the wall was a locally drawn portrait of Rudolph Steiner*. His carefully drawn right eye appeared to wink at me. I closed my eyes and then looked a second time at Steiner's portrait; this time, there was no evidence of movement.

"Teacher" is a quality or energy in substance recognizable by its inclusiveness, loving vibration, and the ability to aid the pupil in expanding conscious awareness.
