Humility means trusting the Tao, thus never needing to be defensive (Tao: 61).
There is compromise in life. This compromise isn't spelled out in words, sizes, shapes, or colors. Compromise comes from a complacent place within oneself. Compromise is an internal experience and immeasurable.
One day, I looked up to see a small squirrel clinging to a tree trunk just outside my 2nd story apartment window. The squirrel chirped and clicked while its tail swooshed side to side. Inside my apartment window was a lazy, fat cat who chirped and hummed back to the squirrel. The two were relentless.
In a pocket of time, the class was dismissed. The squirrel ran down the tree and out of sight while the lazy, fat cat slowly closed his eyes, puffy tail easing to a stop. The two would meet again.
Once in a while, it pays to discover deep within oneself compromise isn't meant for the foolhardy. Meanwhile, the apple of one's eye might as well be a squirrel up a tree with a terrible message for a lazy, fat cat helpless to do anything about it.
